Fully Refined Paraffin Wax

Fully refined paraffin wax with a low oil content, for pillars, votives, tarts and container candles that need a bright colour and a strong scent throw. It holds dye vividly, releases from moulds cleanly and gives the glossy, opaque finish that natural waxes cannot.

Best for

• Pillar and moulded candles with a smooth, hard finish
• Strong hot throw in tarts and wax melts
• Blending with soy or coconut wax to firm up a container candle

Working with it

Melt in a double boiler to about 75–80 °C, add dye, then fragrance oil at 6–10% around 70 °C and stir for two minutes. Pour at roughly 65–70 °C for moulds and slightly cooler for containers, warming the vessel first to avoid wet spots. Paraffin shrinks as it sets, which is what makes it release from a mould and also what leaves a sinkhole around the wick: keep a little wax back for a second pour once the surface has set. It burns more freely than soy, so it usually takes a smaller wick than soy of the same diameter. A 20–30% share added to soy gives a firmer candle with a stronger throw.
