A sweet, dark liquorice with a distinct anise bite up top and an earthy, slightly rooty depth underneath. The sweetness is confectionery rather than sugary, closer to soft liquorice than aniseed sweets, and the dry-down keeps a dry, herbal edge that stops it turning cloying. Good longevity, with a character that stays recognisable in a blend.
Works well in:
- Soy and paraffin candles — good hot throw; distinctive as a single note and in spiced blends
- Wax melts and tart warmers
- Reed diffusers and room sprays — carries well; use at moderate rates as the anise note is assertive
- Melt-and-pour soap — colour-stable in most bases
- Body and perfume oils — works as a dark, sweet modifier in oriental and gourmand blends
