Gel Wax

Crystal-clear gel wax for transparent candles, with shells, glitter and layered colour visible right through the candle. It burns slowly, holds colour well and is screened free of heavy metals and brominated flame retardants.

Working with it

Gel wax needs a higher, steadier heat than natural waxes: melt it slowly to about 90–100 °C in a pan you can watch with a thermometer, never in a microwave, and never leave it unattended. Use only fragrance oils rated for gel, at 3–5%; ordinary oils cloud the gel or separate from it. Add liquid dye a drop at a time. Warm the glass first and pour slowly down the side to keep bubbles to a minimum, or pour hot for a clearer set and cooler if you want bubbles as an effect. Anchor the wick with a metal sustainer, and keep embeds non-flammable and away from the flame. Never add water to the gel.
