Coconut Wax

A soft, creamy coconut wax with a low melting point, used to blend with soy or beeswax for smoother tops, better adhesion and a stronger scent throw. On its own it is too soft for a candle; as 10–30% of a blend it changes how the whole candle sets, burns and smells.

Working with it

Coconut wax melts at about 38–42 °C, so it liquefies in a warm room and must be stored cool and sealed. Melt it together with your base wax rather than separately, at whatever temperature the base needs, and add fragrance at up to 10% of the total blend. Start at 10–20% coconut in soy and go higher for a softer, more scented candle, stopping where the finished candle still feels firm at room temperature in a UAE summer. A candle that leans heavily on coconut wax needs a larger wick, since the softer wax pools quickly. For massage candles, keep the blend mostly coconut and pour cool.
