If you want to make Scented Candles at home but aren’t really sure where to start, this article will give you a great overview of what is needed for candle making.
Supply list:
- Beeswax
- Candle wicks and stickers
- Candle jar
- Fragrance oil
- Spatula
- One heat-proof container
- Melting pot
- Thermometer
- Wick centering device
Step 1: Choose your container
The first step to candle making is to create the container for your Scented Candles. You can use any glass or ceramic container that you have on hand or buy a new one from our shop.
Step 2: Melt the wax
Measure out how much wax you'll need to fill your container, then multiply it by two. That is the amount of wax you will need to melt.
Pour the wax into the double boiler and heat for 10 to 15 minutes, stirring frequently. At a maximum temperature of 90°C.
Step 3: Add fragrance oils
When your candle wax is melted, measure the temperature of the wax with the thermometer. When it reaches 60°C, it’s time to add fragrance oils and dye for a color of your choice. We recommend adding between 3-10% fragrance oil by weight. Pour it into your melted wax and stir to fully incorporate.
Step 4: Attach the wick
Before you pour in the wax to the candle jar, attach the wick to the bottom of your container.
Step 5: Pour the wax
Pour wax into a clean, dry heat-safe container. Make sure the wick is centered. you can use the wick centering device from the kit to hold it in place.
Step 6: Cut the wick.
Let the candle cool for a few hours at room temperature, then trim the wick.
Finally, you should be sure to clean up and dispose properly of any wax that may have dripped onto your table or counter in order to avoid it getting on everything. Enjoy the project!
