Deep, sharp, and intensely spicy — clove opens with a pronounced eugenol-rich character that's dry, medicinal at the edges, and resinous through the core. The warmth is dense and long-lasting, with a slightly smoky quality in the dry-down. It's a high-impact note that dominates at higher usage rates, best employed as a supporting or accent note in oriental, woody, and spice-forward compositions.
Works well in:
- Soy and paraffin candles — strong hot throw, keep within recommended usage rates to avoid overpowering
- Wax melts and tart warmers — performs well, high diffusion even at lower temperatures
- Bukhoor blends — a natural complement to oud, amber, and frankincense
- Reed diffusers and room sprays — use conservatively; projects strongly
- Cold process soap — skin sensitiser at high concentrations; observe IFRA rinse-off guidelines carefully
