PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil

PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil is a solubiliser that lets fragrance oil disperse into water instead of floating on top of it.

It is the usual choice for anything water-based that has to carry a scent: room and linen sprays, facial mists and toners, micellar and cleansing waters, and alcohol-free body sprays. Without a solubiliser, fragrance separates out and sits as a visible film on the surface, and the product looks wrong long before it smells wrong. With one, the finished formula stays clear and stable through its shelf life. It is non-ionic, so it is compatible with most other surfactants in a formula.

PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil is the INCI name, so it can be listed on a label exactly as it appears here. It also leaves a soft feel on the skin and helps limit moisture loss from the surface, which is why it turns up in cleansers as well as in sprays.
