A high-melt microcrystalline wax that hardens paraffin and soy blends, improves adhesion to glass and helps candles keep their shape in the heat. It is an additive rather than a stand-alone candle wax: a small share changes how a blend behaves.
Best for
- Firming pillar blends so they stand up to summer temperatures
- Reducing wet spots and pull-away in container candles
- Sculpted and carved candles that need a flexible, tacky wax
Working with it
Use it at 2–10% of the total wax. Melt it first, since it needs about 80–85 °C to liquefy fully, then add the base wax and bring the blend to the base's usual pouring range. Start low: at 2–5% it makes a pillar noticeably harder and helps a container candle grip the glass; at 10% it adds flexibility and a slight tack, which is what carved and sculpted candles need. It also raises the melting point of a blend, so a candle stored in a car or a sunny window softens later. Its flash point is high, well above any pouring temperature. Keep a note of each ratio you try; the difference between 3% and 6% is easy to feel and hard to remember.
